End of an era at Distrowatch

For all of you Distrowatch fans, Ladislav announced yesterday that he is resigning as editor of the Distrowatch Weekly newsletter. As far as I can tell, he will continue to support the main Distrowatch site. He states that health is his main reason for stepping down.

I have personally received a lot of knowledge of the Linux community through his editorial and its associated blog. Many of his readers have already posted their appreciation of his work, and to wish him well.

Rather than letting the "Weekly" die, he is looking for someone who might be willing to take over that function. Someone who can be distro neutral in his/her reporting, can take abuse from commenters, and can work to a weekly deadline.

The pioneers of the FOSS popularization movement are getting old. I wonder if the politics of freedom can survive a generational transition.

Good ideas almost always transcend generations.....

We (the USA) are about to have an administration that will provide the right kind of environment for causes such as ours**. Unfortunately, they have a few other issues facing them.

Meanwhile, can someone enlighten us on how Distrowatch is organized and managed?

**Obama is reported to have told an audience at Google that he was a supported of open source. I never saw a confirmation.
