Dubbing VHS to DVD problem - Record modes?

Have an in-home VHS tape I needed to dub to DVD using my LG RC199H DVD Recorder/Video Cassette Recorder. It seems really easy to set up, but after dubbing it, on this player can read it, which will not help at all as I need to play it on a DVD/Video player. I am using Maxell DVD-R's. The record modes I have available to me are: EP, LP, SP, and XP. I used EP, and the DVD will not play on any other player in the house or on my computer.

The DVD -> VHS dubbing only has SP and SLP record mode. I'm not sure if that means I need to use SP for my VHS -> DVD to work or not. Please let me know if you have any idea. I need to dub this asap. Thanks!

I just tried the SP setting on a DVD-RW and K3B can't even read it. I don't want to use another DVD-R till I know it'll work.

Anyone have the slightest idea what the problem is? Time is literally money, I'm wasting DVDs trying to find the right mode like they are going out of style.

Problem solved. When inserting a DVD-RW, it asks to be finalized first. It does not do that on a DVD-R, you have to select it in the menu. This process allows other players to read it. Figured I'd post the solution even though no one seems to have the same problem.
