I keep windows around ONLY for gaming. Although I heard that they are porting UT3 for linux.... I am definitely gonna look into that one!

I still play, ahem, Nascar SIM Racing (from 2004) and Madden 08. Sometimes I'll play Civ 4, which I couldn't get to run with Ubuntu. (and last I checked it wouldn't run full featured anyway)

I'll also hang on to it for StarCraft 2. But I may need another box before that will happen running anything.

Well, I can't actually figure this one out. My desktop will forever stay Windoze, I use it for hardcore gaming and my CAD software (Solid Edge, Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD). My laptop however I use Ubuntu 7.10, but have been using Windows a lot lately. I want to use Linux all the time, but something in the back of my mind keeps me gravitating towards windows.
But in a general sense, Open Office, Firefox, Thunderbird, VLC media player, and Banshee music library cover all of my needs.

Booting into XP really helps me appreciate linux

On a serious note, I use it only for itunes.

Got rid of my XP last week. No withdrawal symptoms: no cold sweats, hallucinations, or twitching and trembling.

i just want to say that I have been subscribed to this thread since day 1. I don't think whoever started it had any idea what a monster it would become. I love it!
I bade farewll to M$ OS in August 2006 and now use Kubuntu Hardy and OpenSuse 11.0 on 2 hard drives on my desktop, and the defaoult Xandros on my EeePC.
Linux just works.

I haven't found anything in Linux which really replaces Quicken or Turbo Tax Other than that, I could eliminate Winows.

One problem I'm going to have to solve is that this is the last year that Turbo Tax will run on Win2K

K3B is loaded with problems burning CD/DVDs...there is controversy about whether or not it has been abandoned.

The CD players are a scramble...up one day and down the next.

BTW Oracle 11g1 Enterprise works far better on F9 than Windows XP Prof SP3.

Firefox 3.0.5 doesn't print the inner content of the first page so it is back to XP Prof IE7 for printing.

Try a file find with dolphin under F9.

I only run Windoz for gamming (COD4, DDO, BF2142). I have Ubuntu and Slackware on my laptop and this is what I use for my day to day work.

I think you're better off telling this to the Fedora developers more directly.
As far as K3B.. what problems? By the by, K3B is just a front-end to common tools.
And I don't see your Firefox problem either, is this one specific site you visit or?..
Perhaps it could be fixed with more specific attention.

But perhaps you've just caught a touch of 'let's change this and that because it's our distro, we can be different like that.' syndrome.
Like how you can find Apache's htdocs in /var/www/html in Mandriva but not in Debian. (Both great distributions by the way, don't get me wrong) Distribution makers should stop moving crap around and stick to one standard because it's getting to a point where it has become too much work to keep figuring out out again when using distro X or Y or Z and why F is broken in G but not in L.. I may like distro X, but a customer of mine may prefer or be stuck with distro Z, and it's a pain to have to document and work around the differences just to get on with your work.

Windows? you should keep those closed, it's bloody winter! :P

built my system mainly for gaming, and that's what I use Vista for.

As I couldn't be bothered to reboot machine every now and then (I just hate it. Hence my machines are never off either) when I want to do other things, Vista stayed and instead came a second machine, put Debian on, and done.

That's me too. There are quite a few games that have been ported or work with Wine or Cedega. I still like my Sims 2, though.

Also, my @#$%^& Lexmark All-in-One printer/scanner doesn't work with Linux. But, it may be time to replace that.

Nowadays Windows only gets booted for work stuff. Mostly GIS software such as ArcInfo, MapInfo, TNTMips etc. Occasionally Adobe CS gets used too.
