You know, i used to help out in my dads hardware business and i was never comfortable with the term "nuts" entirely too suggestive. I propose that it be changed to octagonal screwy bits. Unless of course anyone objects to "screwy" or "bits".
Your idea is nice, but too late. Crazy people are no longer call nuts. They are now "psychologically challenged."
And yes. "Screwy" bits is offensive.
Your nuts example points to an interesting example of the stupidity of the issue. A small number of idiots find terms like daemon offensive, but not terms like header. Perhaps I am a little perverted, but the word "header" can be easily interpreted as a sexual innuendo. Why do these "Christian" zealots not complain about those kind of terms?

I think if one is to start finding computer terms offensive then one must start with "Master" and "Slave", heck, even "Primary" and "Secondary" are indicative of am abusive hierarchical relationship.
Then we get onto the salacious subject of "male" and "female" "ports" and adaptors...
I think everything should just be called a 'thingy', followed by a long explanation of what the thingy is or does. That seems tp be the future of the English language anyway, where nothing means what it says and nobody is capable of saying what they mean by any means...

Also distinct from do-hickey, thingamajig and what(ch)yamacallit. Thingys are those things that use for you-know-what. Note that the more intellectual types mostly use the alternate spelling: thingies. Commoners from some regions (ahem), may pronounce it as: 'fingys', and those from southern and western areas of elsewhere(other side of Pond) pronounce it as: 'thangs'.
So are people who look at Windows all day peeping toms? I call that disgusting. And as for hard drives, well!, And floppy? I see what you did there. RAM refers to memory? Really?
