can't go to search engines

Has anyone ever heard of this problem:

Trying to use a search engine results in a connection refused message. This happens with any search engine (MSN, Google) and any browser (IE, Mozilla) Actually, I can't even go to a search engine's main webpage and see it (besides MSN but the search feature doesn't work) Maybe a virus or a possible browser hijack gone wrong? I tried to uninstall/reinstall the browsers and reset all default settings but not helpful.

Could it be this: http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/w...rum/79752.html

Your symptoms sound similar to those described in the article. -- J.W.

Yup, that's exactly it. I have what that dude did. Actually, I fixed it now, I just re-installed the OS. I have a crappy virus scanner and didn't find anything. Maybe with a better virus scanner it would have found it. Thanx for the info.
