Actually, If most people switch from Win to Linux it is not to be bothered anymore with Microsoft
"knowledge", tips and tricks. The trick is to let people believe XP is the ultimate godly Operating
System ever.
As for me, I did not even bother to click on your links.
I am quite certain there will be less moderate comments than mine.
I really don't see the meaning of this. I didn't see anyone asking for help with WinXP recently, let alone that most of the Linux users can manage a win install. Also, you probably realize that, unless this thread will be made a sticky (extremely less probable), it will be quickly buried down the list...or who knows, maybe it will turn into another one of those 1000+ threads.
The best trick I know is:
msconfig
Um, also, that tool that allows you to customize your system... TweakUI, that's the name. That was pretty cool when I used XP.
Other than that, I generally LiveCD a system I need to use that has Windows on it (that isn't at work... we can't exactly tweak the systems at work without getting 40 lashings with a long leather belt! ).
All, this is a legitimate thread. If you really have nothing helpful to add, don't add it. We do get Windows questions here and this may be helpful to those who need it. And saying "install Linux" counts as unhelpful in the context of this thread.
But seriously, the best Windows advice I have is to replace as use as many open source tools as possible in place of Microsoft applications. Simply using Firefox and OpenOffice has saved me from hours of headaches with the computers I maintain at work.
For instance, one of our users (we're a public library) wanted to download a MS Word document template from Microsoft's website, and MS Office refused to install it because the user didn't have admin privileges. Just silly stuff like that that's best avoided.
Blackvipers Services site has the best Window Tweaks I have found yet. TuneXP is also a good program to get from Driverheaven.
My favorite tweak is to get BootVis run that knock down as many start up programs as i can in MSConfig and then turn off the gui boot screen as well under MSConfig using all these and Defraggging the drive before running BootVis allowed me to get Windpws booted up in 15 seconds.

You know that's not really possible!!
If you do so from cmd, you will get nothing, as Window$ protects itself more than everything!
Anybody tried X-Setup Pro (http://www.x-setup.net/)? It's just much better than own M$' Tweak UI. And you can also remove 'dead' programs from your Registry, if you can't remove them through 'Add/Remove Progs'.

I don't really care.
www.[win]customize.com may be useful, but anyone using XP should just take a look at what a Linux box can do, and he'll never go back again! Linux can't be beat. Open Source = FUTURE.
my own favourite is PowerCalc. (I know it can't be compared with the much better Linux ones). But a calc like that would cost you $$ if downloaded from third-party companies.
windows sucks at being customized you need to pay extra money!(most of the time anyways)
all those people that make themes for windows should really check out linux, they might like it

Ahhh...you beat me to it! Honestly though, windows seems to deteriorate like an ice sculpture on the equator. I find myself formatting my XP install roughly every 3 months because things just begin to break.
The very best thing that works for me with XP is to:
Code:
Do
Format your partitions
Install XP
Install Services Packs
Install Drivers
Install your cracked programs (including anti-virus and firewalls)
Install your games
wait (a few weeks)
Repeat
Well, I'm kinda turning towards Linux too, but I've lived all my childhood in Windows, and I could say I know it pretty good.
This way, I'm keeping two WinXP's on my PC right now (the coolest thing), one for me, which already runs OK for a year, and one for my family members (I have to reinstall that one about once a month, just like you said, because [my family] always gets trapped in spyware etc.
Keeping two WinXPs on a PC is only possible using a Linux boot loader, AFAIK. So I use LILO.
All you people who scan the 'net for cheat codes, serial numbers, cracks and patches, TAKE SOME TIME, FREE SOME SPACE AND INSTALL LINUX! You'll be impressed of the freedom it gives you, and will never go back to that prison: M$
