Did you know that Minix runs on the Intel Management Engine, making it the most widely used operating system?

Beyond Linux being on many Desktop computers, Android is based on Linux, there are TV's and set top boxes that run Linux. I've worked at some companies writing software, even those at which some of their software is developed on MS-Windows, and those companies still ran their web servers on Linux.

And those which don't.

Mine does not, nor does any of my web servers run Linux.

People who are involved in getting statistics on such things have suggested that Android is the most popular operating system in the World. MS-Windows 10 has some Linux-like commands. Some versions of Chrome OS have used the Linux kernel. There's everything from the MKS Toolkit to something more full blown such as Cygwin. Some of these things have ran on MS-DOS, OS/2 and on to MS-Windows. There have been studies which suggested that 48% of Enterprises use open source operating systems. At a variety of places where I've worked developing software, even if plenty of machines ran MS-Windows, a very substantial percentage also used, typically something such as Cygwin, for the actual development. You can argue all you want about the differences between Linux and Unix, or Unix-like OS's in general. But it seems that realistically, the overarching preference is clear.

You may not like the way things are. I feel there's way too much argument in the World about preferences. I feel that there is no reason why people have to agree on what they like.

In any event, arguing about it, isn't going to change it.

Although hopefully the choice will become more comprehensive.

Hey you like Windows while I figure the only thing that Microsoft could make that wouldn't suck is vacuum cleaners ever since Win2K. One man's meat is another man's poison. That said I don't habituate Windows message boards tossing FUD around. Why do you?
