Not so different to the long established goals of the gnome project really.

They made it clear back in the earlier days of gnome shell, that allowing user customisation was something they actively worked against.

Back in the day, one of the reasons I lost interest in Gnome was its lack of configurability. I didn't know at the time that that was a deliberate "branding" decision, but it explains a lot. A later Gnome change gave rise to one of the most memorable sound-bites from the old Tux Radar podcast. From memory: "if I want someone to tell me how to use my computer I'll use Windows."

The irony is I'm generally very happy to let people know what software I'm using, unless it's Windows. :P If Gnome have been more flexible they'd probably have had more advertising from me, and I doubt I'm alone in that.

Enjoy!

Market share is irrelevant for quality.

What you're saying there also extends to Windows; doesn't Windows have more market share in the desktop market ?

But nevertheless, Linux is still kicking Window's ass in every market bar the desktop market...

Windows finds pretty blue colors to use
but the programs still fold up and die
just before you save that important
document or letter you were writing.

...and of course, that's why Windoze has only **one** market to it's name, and Linux has, well, the rest!

I have recently hit a problem in "Vista8.1" where the "devices and printers" applet does not show any printers. I searched the web and found some with the same problem, the "advice" from "VIP" "Pro" members on Windows related sites is laughable. In one case the OP describes his problem in quite some detail and the first patronising "VIP" dick head responds with something along the lines of "either something is wrong or you don't have printers installed"....

Even when other helpful users chime in and highlight that it is in fact a bug, which no one really understands, which MS don't care about and which only has workarounds such as restarting two services, creating a new (old style) "Printers" applet, using powershell, disabling the fetching of metadata, most of which are inexplicably hit and miss - those "VIP" members go strangely silent or just start picking over the semantics or points where the OP rails against MS for their shit software. It confirms my suspicion that MS "tech support" is mainly in the hands of MS shills and apologist fanbois who's culture is to whitewash any problems with MS products.

Here's a thread that will give you a laugh cynwulf - pretty much echo's what you were saying above too.

Needless to say reinstalling the driver didn't work...

Yes I know Linux has kernel panics, but unlike using Winblows, they don't seem to happen very often, wonder why...?

Ah, a "browser" to replace M$'s "Internet Explorer", funny how that was a complete flop, hey? They can keep their shit...

Because I'm an ex-windows luser and believe that it's possible to put a fire out by dousing it with enough petrol (or even gasoline):

How can you tell if a windows user has a flat tyre?
They've taken every wheel off the car and are replacing them one at a time.
