I'm configuring a new gateway email virus scan server (linux/McAfee). There is an opportunity to use blacklists. Has anyone used spamhaus.org? Any opinions on these lists?
My opinion is that such lists will change so fast as to make them a tad less then useful. Will your virus scanner detect zipped executables? Cause that was the latest ploy in this past months doz wormapalooza
Not sure if it scans those, because I block all attachments except .doc /.ppt/ or .xls With my current setup (Window$ NT/McAfee) we have never had a virus slip by in 4 years.
The upgrade (Linux/McAfee) now also has this spam block option available, that's why I asked about spamhaus.org

I use blacklists in my Spamassassin/Postfix installation at work. It does alright, but requires maintenance as the sites that host them tend to get attacked by the scum that send spam and their friends. We are filtering roughly 70% of the spam we get with SA, but early on we hit 92%. I am hoping another maintenance session on the blacklists and maybe an upgrade in the software will bring us back into the 80's at least.
