I certainly meant no harm in observing that parents say things like that to impressionable kids who, at that age, are quite likely to believe it. I've known of people who, upon encountering a bit of bad luck, ascribed the events to "God's curse" (quote ...) because there was a Ouija Board somewhere in the house!
I've read several interesting studies of the muscle movements that constantly occur when you are not consciously moving those muscles, as well as the "correct but involuntary" moves that sometimes take place. (Obviously, and not surprisingly, our muscle-control systems work at many levels simultaneously.) Experimenters have also given people Ouija Board sliders where the board's lettering was concealed (but could be read remotely). The slider still moved, but the letters produced were quatch. Only when the experimenters were looking at the board did recognizable words come out. And it didn't matter if one person was touching it, or two.

I tried it once and we got no results. Any method of divination that relies on that sort physical input is open to unconscious (or conscious) manipulation by one of the participants.
I'm amused that a gang of sociologists described the users as a cult. I've always thought of them in the same way: I certainly can't take their subject seriously.

People need to toughen up when discussing these subjects... Be prepared that a comment may not agree with you, thats quite often the case...
I'll come back to a conversation like this, if people are not directing abuse at a person but if that argument is at the written conversation, then thats fair and we all have opinions which is a good base for philosophy in general...
To make a comment here in this subject, is going bring out a comment from another person in reply... If you are offended by that reply, then dont make a comment first,,,
Its religion, starts lots of wars! We are Linux users, lets rise above that and be the investigative, strip down to nothing and rebuild, and work out a code that fits all...Lets keep discussing this subject and THINK ABOUT IT!

CULT,
1.
a system of religious veneration and devotion directed towards a particular figure or object.
2.
a person or thing that is popular or fashionable among a particular group or section of society.
Well that's buggered it.. Linux is a Cult, windows is a Cult.. OOPs I'm looking at the obvious aren't I..
I always had an idea of the meaning of a cult and use to laugh at the media use of the word, but when you look up the dictionary meaning and think about it, my interests makes me a cult member...Damn, i'm in several cult groups... Argh I need help from that group ANTI CULT, oops, technically there a cult too.. bum

It's only a board game. There are no demons or dead people moving the arrow thing. The people playing the game are moving it. They just don't realize it. I standby my opinion.
After divorcing my 2 previous witch wives. Major mistakes in my life during certain times but interesting non the less and had it's fun moments.
Tarot cards are good for wall papering on plywood like a painting.
ouija boards make good rolling spliff decks for cleaning seeds from plant buds from Mexico.
Power jewels/gem necklaces make good wind chimes.
My ranch on the border is a funny?/my kind of place. Lots of Santeria Brujeria practiced along the Tex/Mex border. It is a brisk business practice for folks living on the edge of poverty. Lots of self proclaimed shamans floating around trying to make a living. Kinda a colorful life style. Actually. Ever attended a day of the dead festival?
Makes for good motorcycle riding. I guess it depends on how one looks at life in general.
there are a lot of things that can be used as oracles
tea leaves, tarot cards, pendulums, coins and the iching, the stars and planets (astrogle),a bowl of water with some oil on it ( Nostradamus ),the classic crystal ball even my favorite the bible
you have to get into the right state of mind and allow your attention to be drawn to the answer of your question
they all have one thing in common they all work best on questions about spirituality
ouija boards I outgrew those when I was 9 years old
