today i tried to install fedora on my PC. 1st I tried FC3, being the latest. The installation went perfectly. but when it rebooted after installation, it hanged after printing this line ...
Initializing hardware ..... Storage Network Audio
then of course i googled it, and came to know a lot of people had this same problem, the cause being either Nvidia cards or sound cards, the solution told was that just remove "rhgd" line from the bootloader, but it didn't work for me. so anyway, after spending 4 hours on it and trying every solution given in every forum, the problem persisted.
So i decided to try FC2. But this time the PC rebooted just after i pressed "Enter" to start the boot process. It just printed two lines and rebooted. from the same solution finding process, i tried it with "linux noprobe" bcz someone said its bcz of some hardware or card, but to no avail either.
then i decided to try FC1, the boot process started fine but this time it hangs in 1 minute after printing "running /sbin/loader" .....
So out of desperation i just installed Windows XP and everything went smooth and i am tpying this story now from the same PC. Now i wud really like to use Linux on this PC, so if anyone can help me with any of the above 3 problems, i'll be eternally grateful (But plz don't recommend that use some other distro)
i am just a newbie with linux, so i cannot repair the kernel and similar stuff, so plz be kind to this poor fellow and relay ur answers in some detail if u can.

Hi,
Now i have officially spent 7 hours trying to fix that PC. i tried with Debian, but its installation procedure was so confusing and geeky that all the previuos data on the disks was erased and i came to know about it after its installation aborted. thankfully there was not much important stuff on it, bcz this PC has a history of problems

then i tried knoppix, it also failed, telling me "kernel panic" was the reason ........ and now i have given up for the day ..... there is nothing like a day spent on trying to install an OS ..... www.alisajjad.net
