No Desktop FC3

I have recently installed FC3, while everthing works fine, I have one problem - the desktop.

The system boots and I am prompted to enter the user name and password in the Gui style mode (windows). After this I am thrown into a console window with no menu's or application that I can use. Although, I am pretty comfortable in command line mode, I thought I should take a look a the KDE/Gnome desktop functionality.

From the little research that I did I have conlcuded that for some reason I may have not selected the Desktop at the time of installation and hence this problem .... again, this a guess from my part. Need your advise.

Having said that, how can I possibly get the KDE/Gnome up and running.

Help pease.

TIA
-G

On your login screen there is a dropdown menu. On it you will be able to choose KDE, Gnome, Xserver etc. I ran into the same thing.

I don't see any drop box. Here is what I see at the login prompt :

At the bottom right hand I see Language, Sessions, Reboot and Shutdown. None of these have submenu to choose KDE/Gnome.

Thanks for the help. I resolved the problem, but it is sad that I had to resort to resinstalling from scratch, no different then what I would do for MS windows. I am glad it was just a test box .....
Didn't mind it all but it was disappointing that I didn't know what caused the problem. I am still guessing !

If the choices were there they would be under sessions. The nice thing about the FC install is that you have a lot of choices and it installs faster than Windows. The bad thing is you can also leave out some stuff. Without the GUI, it takes a lot longer to get this done. Good Luck!
