Installing Fedora 36 with separate "\home": Filesystem question, ext4 or btrfs ?
Hello, I plan to install Fedora Workstation 36 with a separate \home partition. I have a 120GB SSD, a 1TB HDD, and 8GB RAM, so I am thinking of doing the partitioning as follows:
SDD:
\efi (± 500MB)
\swap (± 4GB)
\ (the rest)
HDD:
\home (1TB)
I know how to do the procedure itself, but I am in doubt when it comes to selecting the format of the partition's filesystem. In Fedora installation, for \efi, I select "EFI System Partition"; for \swap, it's just "swap"; but for root and \home I don't know if I should select "ext4" or "btrfs".
I have read about both types, seeing the advantages and disadvantages of each, but I really wanted to choose based on whether any format would create a problem when running the distro. I know Fedora uses "btrfs" by default, but "ext4" should be more solid because it's older, and in several tutorials I found on the internet, they used "ext4", but I'm not sure because it's not the default option of the distro.
So I wonder if someone could help me to make this decision, since my main goal is functionality and stability on a daily basis.
Some information about my pc in case it helps:
SSD: 120GB
HDD: 1TB
RAM: 8GB
Processor: Intel i5-8300H 2.30 GHz
x64-based
UEFI
I apologize if I didn't make the question clear enough.
But I appreciate very much everyone's attention.
You will find it much easier to locate help on the web for a start - this is a major advantage for a new user. Fedora has toyed with btrfs for years until committing to it recently. I have used it since it was in beta years ago, but rarely use it for the root filesystem.
In my estimation, the special features that btrfs offers are much more applicable in the enterprise than in home use. I normally use ext4 and it has served me well.
Distribution: Mainly Devuan, antiX, & Void, with Tiny Core, Fatdog, & BSD thrown in.

Rep:
I've been using ext4 since it came out, been rock solid.
By the way, Linux/BSD use a forward slash, not a back slash, that's MS Windows/DOS, get out of the habit, as it can cause some problems with some software, etc.
