install woes... Isolinux: Disk error 28 AX=42E9
I have an old HP Pavilion that was given to me that i am attempting to install fedora 5 onto.
Here are the hardware stats that I could get
AMD Athalon
1.3GHZ
128MB SDRAM
Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-116
PS/2 Mouse + Keyboard
Intel Pro 100/S Ethernet card
Creative Labs AudioPCI sound card
Bios Revision 3.08
This is the error that I keep getting;
Isolinux: Disk error 28 AX = 42E9, Drive 9F
I google'ed my brains out trying to find a solution to my problem, I just have the one dvd drive and have the jumper set to master so I don't have any strange cable select problems. I can't get any forms of Linux to work on this machine. I don't know what’s going on. I can still boot into Windows XP but it’s slow as molasses because of spy ware and other useless garbage.
I also tried to boot this machine with my knoppix cd, and that failed also. But no error on that just locked it up.
I know my knoppix cd is good, it boots just fine on my P4 3.2ghz 1g ram desktop and I can read all the internals of the dvd's just fine on my laptop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried solve my problem before posting but couldn't get anywhere. Is there some index of disk errors somewhere on the Internet that I could look to in the future?
