Fedora is not detecting my Sata HDDs

Hi, Ive just got a new Pc with 2 200GB Seagate Baracuda sata hdds.
The Motherboard is Asus P5VDC-MX.

The problem i am getting is that the fedora installation won't detect the hard drives. I also tried knoppix live but it does not detect the disks also. However, if i boot with my ms-dos bootable cd, i am able to get the drives and i have even formatted them. I am pretty sure that i did not enable any raid interface on the motherboard. can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to correct it?

You'll need a way newer kernel. You can see the motherboard specs here:
http://www.asus.com.tw/products4.asp...14&modelmenu=1

You can see the SATA chipset support here:
http://forums.viaarena.com/messagevi...threadid=71754

Building yourself a new kernel isn't too difficult of a prospect these days.

Hi Thanks for answering. Do you know any version of linux having the kernel 2.6.18 or later? Does Suse 10.1 have it?

I downloaded the source for the Sata driver for the kernel 2.6.15. Can anyone tell me how to use this during my installation? Must i compile it before hand?
