Hi Forrest

my drive is physically attached to IDE Master (Primary Master)...nothing is working still - I'm about to give up and bag the whole thing and reinstall.

Thanks for all your help.

I just noticed this portion of your previous post:

I have now gotten to the point where it tells me "Boot record not found" if I try to boot from my hard drive.

Does this mean your machine does not now boot, or are you still able to boot XP? Do you get the menu to pick XP or Linux, and then get this message, or do you not get anything?

If you don't have much data on your linux partition, reinstalling may be the best solution, just make sure when it gets to the part about whether or not you want to install a NEW boot loader you say that yes, a NEW one is what you want. Also, when you get to where it asks you where to install your boot loader say MBR of /dev/hda.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help,

Forrest

Hello Forrestt,

As per your recommendation to me about booting via the install cdrom and into rescue mode and issue those commands... I tried that way back when... it doesn't work! I am guessing because the mbr is on my physical second drive L: and my mbr on C: (my first physical drive).

I am just dissatisfied with the idea of modiying my C:, why can't there be a way to boot off a cdrom to any physical drive???!!!

Thanks for your help,
Charlie
