I just noticed this portion of your previous post:
I have now gotten to the point where it tells me "Boot record not found" if I try to boot from my hard drive.
Does this mean your machine does not now boot, or are you still able to boot XP? Do you get the menu to pick XP or Linux, and then get this message, or do you not get anything?
If you don't have much data on your linux partition, reinstalling may be the best solution, just make sure when it gets to the part about whether or not you want to install a NEW boot loader you say that yes, a NEW one is what you want. Also, when you get to where it asks you where to install your boot loader say MBR of /dev/hda.
