I have it running on a spare hard-drive for my laptop. Seems pretty good. Just installed yesterday, so I haven't had too much time to play with it, yet.

Actually, it's not a whole lot different than my FC1 install... I've upgraded most of the programs I normally use to the current versions.
Code:
 			MY FC1 FC2 (1.90)
Kernel 2.4.24 2.6.1
KDE 3.2 3.1.95
Mozilla 1.6 1.6
OpenOffice 1.1 1.1
Python 2.3.2 2.3.3
I am really looking forward to the official release in April. Just in time for my birthday!!

Up2date brings the kernel up to 2.6.2.

i did an upgrade on my home box from core 1 to core 2 test 1 and i must say it was a terrible thing to try. the install went ok, no errors or anything like that, i'm sure there was some stuff i should have read before i did it, but here is what happened.

the nvidia driver 5336 does not load, had to switch back to the old nv driver in my xf86config file ***edit: i reinstalled the nvidia driver and x started fine, but now i dont have any icons on my desktop nor can i right click the desktop to do anything. end edit***

my network connection was not working. i have a VIA Rhine onboard NIC connecting through a netgear MR814v2 router. this worked before the upgrade

my usb mouse stopped working, had to add the ps/2 adapter to it. also my usb keyboard did not work at first, had to use a ps/2 but it did work again after a reboot so i know my usb stuff works, just need to figure out why the usb mouse stopped working

my panel didnt seem to work right, the main menu would not open, had to do a ctrl-alt-backspace to get back tot he cli

what the heck happened to nautilus?!?!?!?! why is it opening seperate windows everytime i click on a folder and where do i go to change it back to the old way? is that what gnome 2.5 defaults to? if i right click a folder and select "browse folder" it opens nautilus the way it used to with a tool bar and side panel. how do i get that back to the default?

it also seemed to throw a lot of kde stuff on there too even though i did not have it installed to begin with.

well that is as far as i got. i will play around more tonight, but the thing with nautilus is really turning me off. i did an upgrade to my work pc (same core 1 to core 2) and have the same issue wth nvidia and gnome (nautilus) but my eth0 connections work fine, maybe that was just my provider last night at home not working

all my settings did carry over though, did not have to fix anything there. i know this is a test build and did not expect it to be perfect, but i thought an upgrade should perform better than what i experienced.

thanks for letting me vent and rant. i do like fedora and will continue to use it. maybe i will do a clean install of core 2 test 1, but not until i figure out the nautilus thing.

I tried it. Weird problems:

First GRUB screwed up not letting me get to XP anymore (seems to be a common problem through searching)

Applications seem to crash for me a lot and sometimes the launcher menu won't open

finds the sound card, but aumix keeps resetting everything back to 0 volume. Also when i go to play a test sound it says the mosule is not loaded, click on ok, it plays the sound fine, then click ok to close the config and it gives another error about the module.

I've yet to try Fedora Core 1 mostly because i started to download 2 test 1 before i realized it and figured what the hell, and tried it anyway. This version is a little too buggy for me still, but i am going to go check out core 1.

well i gave up on fedora 2 test 1, it was way too buggy for me as well, im running core 1 now and it works great

as far as grub not loading XP, where did you install grub? if you put it on a linux partition you might not be able to boot into XP, if you put it on the mbr and overwrite your current boot loader it should work

i use system commander 7. it works great and even does partitioning

I downloaded the Fedora Core from one of the mirror sites onto my XP box, burned the three discs , ran the 'md5sum' and had to DL disc 2 a second time to get the code to read properly. Unfortunately, I can not get the DL discs to start up on a 3rd PII box I have. I am awaiting the arrival of the Fedora discs from a purchase I made. Any suggestions to a newbie trying to get Fedora to run as a clean boot on a standalone?

I have the same problem and I have yet to figure out a solution and because of that I decided to remove sndconfig. I just use alsa's command "alsasound start"

I can only use a custom Kernel because the Fedora kernel gives me a blank screen.

I have lost the use of kappfinder in kde. I don't think it is in Fedora 1. Oh.....one more thing, I cannot upgrade my rpm because it is incompatible with apt, libapt and synaptic

After a couple of days and some curse words and apt, and synaptic, it works like a charm
