FC4 64 Won't Install - Badness in Panic.c:119
AMD 64 3000+
Chaintech S1689 w/ Uli M1689 chipset
512 MB DDR 333 RAM
NVIDIA TI 4200 128MB Video
Here's what happens. I can boot from the DVD to the opening screen where you either hit enter or type in Linux [Options]. After that I see drivers being loaded and then the screen freezes. The only decipherable message I see is "Badness in panic at kernel/panic.c:119 (not tainted)".
I've tried every boot option: noapic, noht, nomce, nopcmcia, noathlon, text, lowres, nodma. It all ends the same with little if any variation.
I have been able to load the 32 bit version of FC4 with no problems and it is working quite well. I have also been able to load WinXP 64 Pro with no problems. I was unable to load Suse 64 Live CD.
It seems that my machine will not work with 64 bit Linux. I have checked my ISOs against the sha1sum files. I have tried the DVD and the CDs. I have even tried with multiple DVD and CD drives. Same thing every time.
I have searched the error above and have found very little written (only 3-4 entries in Google). There have been no suggestions or explanations for this problem.
I don't know if it's just not meant to be but I'd appreciate at least an explanation to what might be happening. I have a friend who has loaded FC4 64 on his laptop with no problems. Just wish I didn't have to rely on MonopolySoft for a 64 bit operating system.
I am pretty much a noob when it comes to Linux. I've had a few adventures getting things going with FC4 x86 but it's been going rather well for the past few weeks. Regardless, I would appreciate anyone's help in anyway. Thanks.
