FC2 freeze / hang before install
I've got FC1 & winXp home setup to dual boot on my laptop.
(Acer ferrari 3000 via savage chipset)
Because of several niggling problems with FC1, I downloaded the ISOs for FC2 (i386 version).
I burnt the ISOs to CD and booted from disk 1.
I get the initial screen, (where you type lunix text / linux noprobe etc.)
Have tried all the options (except for linux rescue) they all take me to the media test bit.
So after hitting enter at the previous bit, I get a big blue screen with "Welcome to Fedora" in the top right, and tab/alt tab / space etc at the bottom.
A little box flashes up "loading USB storage driver" then another one which disappears to quick for me to see.
At this point things go wrong.
I know what should happen - I should get another box appear prompting me to test the media / skip. Usually this never appears, the system just sits there doing nothing, not responding to keyboard input. Eventually I have to power cycle.
Occasioanly, the box will appear, so I hit the button to test the media, and it seems to freeze half way through testing the first cd.
Other times if the box appears, I just skip the media test. It then either hangs again, or (this has only happened once so far) it comes back saying "fedora core cd not found, please insert the correct cd" or something like that.
I've re-burned ther cds loads of times, at the lowest write speed I can, with several different burning apps. I even bought a magazine with the FC2 cds attached, tried them and it was the same.....
Had a chat with a friend who thinks he knows what he's talking about - and he was stumped. All he could suggest was maybe FC2 has problems with reading from my CD / DVD RW drive??????
Any sensible suggestions?
