dismantling RAID 1

It may sound like a bad idea, but I recently tried to install FC 6 on a RAID 1 array (mirroring), then split them into 2 by disabling the RAID feature in BIOS (so that I can have 2 identical distro without installing them twice) all went well until I notice it may use s/w RAID 1 on my 2 drives (don't know how it came across), and when I unplug one of the drives to see if it would work individually, it doesn't (kernel panic somewhere -- the text is too fast to read, but about something in /dev not found or the /dev itself not found)

(talking about using RAID 1 as back up)

what exactly should I change the stuff in Rescue mode in order to have these installations work individually?
