Yes!! We have no XF86Config!

I just installed Fedora Core 2 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I was impressed at how smoothly it went. However, the only resolution I've got available is 800x600. I'd like to get 1024x768. Normally, I'd go tinker with XF86Config, which I've done before with some success. . .only I have no XF86Config. Not even an XF86Config\*.

How am I so sure?

% find / -name XF86Config\* 2> /dev/null

turns up nothing (as root).

What gives? Doesn't Fedora Core 2 use XFree86? Has the XFree86 startup changed in recent versions? Every answer to the "How do I change resolutions?" question is "Modify XF86Config" - only I ain't got one.

Gracias,

Slacquer

Open /etc/X11/xorg.conf in emacs or another text editor (I prefer gedit) and change the Monitor section

Core 2 utilizes the new xorg's x11R6.7 release. It has been favored coz xfree86
adopted a license that is incompatible withe that GNU Public License.Xorg's new release is based on xfree86's 4.4RC2, and has some serious updates to the earlier release. The x libraries are,as tutwabee wrote, in the /etc/X11 directory.

You can also change your resolution by choosing 'screen resolution' under preferences in Gnome.
