If I am not mistaken Xinetd used to be always installed and activated in previous versions . Not so now . Is this a problem ? Or a major improvement ?

Since few people use an xinetd service, it is no longer installed by default. It's still just a command away:

yum -y install xinetd

Thank you .. but I thought it was essential for a number of other services .. like DHCP ??

DHCP is normally (on Fedora) a standalone server:

yum -y install dhcp

The xinetd server normally (again, on Fedora) controls these services:

chargen
chargen-udp
cvs
daytime
daytime-udp
echo
echo-udp
eklogin
gssftp
klogin
krb5-telnet
kshell
rsync
time
time-udp

Few folks need to run any of these.

xinetd is needed to launch network SERVICES not clients.

DHCP is a service; the client is "dhcpv6_client".

I think I should clarify why I asked .

I have a network of 3 computers the fastest is a PIII 866 Mhz .
These work fine using XP on the main one and WIN98 on the others . I think XP uses DHCP to allot IP addresses to the others . Now when I boot up Linux on the PIII I still want the other computers to be networked . However I can see the main computer ( Linux now )on the others but I cannot see the others on the main . I thought I would have to have a DHCP server running on Linux to solve the problem .
Maybe there is another way .

DHCP allocates IP addresses, DNS servers, and the gateway router IP address to clients. If you are getting an IP address when your network interface starts, you don't need a DHCP server - there is already one providing addresses for your network (probably in your router).

Since the xinetd issue is resolved or not a problem, I suggest you open a new thread describing the actual problem you are having in as much detail as possible. Folks that may be able to help you with a Windows/Linux interoperability issue will problably not be looking at a thread called 'xinetd not installed'.

HI I am facing same problem I have Installed RHEL5 on VmWare--but cannot access folder on Win xp.

I dont have xinetd Installed...when I run your command its gives me erroras below :
