I really am at a loss here. I did something to my original installation and while it worked in the beginning it later crashed and would not let me into Fedora 9 at all. Thus I was forced to reinstall.
Here is where it became quite interesting, but truly confusing. After everything was supposed to be installed. I entered into the log in screen and while it presented my original log in with the OTHER I signed into the main first and was entered into GNOME. I figured I would just take care of my updating, fine tuning and such, and then go to the OTHER which I assumed should bring me into KDE.
However, after signing into the OTHER I was still entered into GNOME. I logged out and tried again, but still was brought into GNOME. I logged out again and repeated the process of logging into the main part and the OTHER and I was always brought into GNOME.
I then went to the ADD/REMOVE Software and made sure all of KDE was installed. Some things I had to install that should already have been installed, but nevertheless every part of KDE is now installed. In fact, I do not have any real problem, that I am aware of as yet, using KDE apps in Gnome but I am fairly certain I should not be doing that or they would not be separate to begin with.
BUT I STILL CANNOT GET INTO KDE!! What is wrong with the session manager or whatever it is called? Can anyone help me. Please help!
After you enter/select your username, there should be an option at the bottom of the scrren for session type. Change this to kde before entering your password
The only issue with running Kde apps in Gnome is the extra libs (kde stuff) needed(same for the reverse). If you are going to install Kde anyway you will have these installed. You can run Kde apps in Gnome without having all of Kde installed. That is what I think has happened. Have you rebooted since installing the rest of Kde?
In the beginning, the option to switch between Gnome and KDE did not appear, but after installing a few more KDE apps I somehow missed and thus rebooting the options did appear. SO now I can get into KDE. I do not understand why the original new installation did not automatically install all the KDE apps, but nonetheless I now have it.
