Upgrade or new install?

Making my CD's now for FC2. Been running FC1, very stable no problems. Have Samba, Apache, PHP, & MySQL all running so far without and fighting.
Since my system is running ok should I do just an upgrade or wipe it out and do a complete new install? I know doing an upgrade would be easier but have there been more problems that way then doing a new install?

Just wanting some opinions.

thanks

Don't know whether Fedora is as clever as you want it to be.
I use SuSE and tried upgrading the system. It was easy - in deed! After that nothing worked. In fact, the system was running but suddenly LaTeX was missing. And other things as well. So I did the ordinary way - reinstalling everything. Now I always do so if there is a new release of SuSE linux.

Ok then I'll go with the upgrade. I have to redownload the disk 1&2 again first. The checksum didn't match and so i've made two new coasters for my computer table this morning.

So far I've been really impressed with FC. Tried Mandrake a few months back and couldn't figure out how to get Samba to work right and had some minor issues with thier modified version of apache. I do have a few issues with sound but I really don't need it as I'm using it as a webserver right now.

Thanks for the info. As soon as I'm done I'll post and let everone know how it goes.

Hey its me! Congrats! :)

Hello. Just wanted to pop in and give yea a "congrats!!!". As you may notice under my name I have been a Mandrake user...but quite honestly that is changing now that I've been using Fedora (since release 1).

Anyhoo...congrats and hope to see some more of you around these parts now

Can you upgrade from FC1 to FC2 with yum? I tried a clean install (dual boot with XP but we won't go into that here!) with a DVD ISO I burned with before mentioned partition problems.

does up to date upgrade to Fedora Core 2, or does it just keep Fedora Core 1 up to date?

You have to download the 4 CD's of the new FC2. Reboot the machine with Disk 1 and during the setup it will ask you if you want a new install or an upgrade. I did the upgrade. It took about an hour or so. (slow computer PIII 400MHz 512MB Ram) The only thing that YUM or UP2DATE do is keep your system current on the release that you have.

I didn't have many issues with after the upgrade except that my Samba configuration was changed. I just went in and rewrote my smb.conf file and everything was back to normal.

Gonna do some serious testing today because I use it as an inhouse webserver to test webpages on. If I have any problems or question I'll post a new thread.

Hope that helps.

i recommend a new install!

i upgraded from a "VERY STABLE AND VERY FAST" fc1 and here what i got, i mean got nothing....no sound, almost all software were corrupted (wine, red carpet updater etc) , xkb error everytime you booted up, nfts and other module is not accessible, so much to write that here...luckily dont have the same fate with othere who have damage XP partition.

I did a fresh install but still my asus cd writer is not working...im thinking and have to decide until tommorrow on reinstalling Fedora Core "1".
