Trouble with Java SDK 1.4.2

i just installed java 1.4.2 SDK following these instructions http://fedorafaq.org/custom_java.html

I am running on an AMD 64 but decided to reinstall fedora in i386 because there are many compatability issues with x86... and bugs. So I installed the appropriate version (I tried the 1.5 AMD64 version and it wouldn't even extract. So I get everything installed, I log out, back in, I type java in the console, it spits back a bunch of things I can do, so i know its working.

So now I need something to edit java with, so I downloaded BlueJ and followed the instructions to install it:

Code:
[uphu@localhost ~]$ su -
Password:
[root@localhost ~]# cd /home/uphu
[root@localhost uphu]# java -jar bluej-202.jar
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_06/jre/lib/i386/libawt.so: libXp.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

        at java.awt.Component.<clinit>(Component.java:506)
[root@localhost uphu]#
Any ideas?

You mean some IDE?? If so try JEdit. It's a breeze to install and works really well on FC1-i386 (my current set up).

Noticed it only now... Looks like you have some broken symbolic link in the path - /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_06/jre/lib/i386/libawt.so
Make sure there is no broken symbolic link there. My $0.02.

Thanks,
Sarav

java place holder

One thing that burned me was the place holder or whatever that FC3 has in /usr/bin. I got the java installed correctly but when I checked the version with "java -version" it kept coming up with something other than what I should have had. Digging into it turned up a java place holder in /usr/bin. Once I got rid of that java worked fine.

The best way to do Java in Fedora Core is with JPackage
