there isn't smb service


hi
i have fedora 3 and searched for smb service but there isn't exist
and the command "/sbin/service smb status" print this output
"smb: unrecognized service"
and i can't see anything in windows network
what is the problem

Did you select the Samba server package or the Samba client package as part of your installation?

If no, then you need to install one or the other, depending on your needs. As I recall, a simple desktop installation includes neither.

From a terminal try:
rpm -q samba
and:
rpm -q samba-client
these should tell you if the packages are installed and return your current versions

ok>> i installed the samba package and the service was added but i can't see any computer in file manager and i can see linux' machine from windows but i can't coming to it
i tried the command smbclient :
/usr/bin/smbclient //teacher/khh
where "teacher" is the windows' machine name and khh is the share directory>>> i have this message:
Connection to teacher failed
how can i solve the problem

Did you modify the firewalls on both the linux and windows computers to allow communication?

Try turning off the firewalls on both ends and see if you can establish communications.

i set firewall to disable then i could see all workgroups in network and browse them ("but that not good solution because i have internet connection") except my workgoup i can't come in to my workgrpoup ...so what is the problem
