splash screen does not automatically disappear

Hello --

We are using Fedora Core 2 32-bit on one of our systems. The authentication method that is used is NIS, and the workstation in question also serves as a slave server.

Users are able to log into the workstation, and access the Gnome desktop. However, the splash window that appears listing the various daemons being loaded does not automatically disappear. Rather, it requires the user to left-click on it. The last daemon that appears to be loading in the window is the Network Monitor service.

Has anyone seen this issue, know what the cause is, and how it can be corrected?

Thanks.

What's your graphics card?

I've seen a variety of visual "artifacts" with some Nvidia graphic
environments, that are left behind and have to be clicked to be
cleaned away.
