I have done a lot of searching about this but haven't found anything that has fixed my problem. I downloaded and installed the xmms-mp3 plugin and now my mp3's are playing but I am getting no sound.
I just installed fedora core 2 yesterday and the test sound during install worked fine for me.
Do you have XMMS to use the Alsa plugin, to check open up XMMS then click in the top left corner, options, preferences and see if the Output plugin is set to Alsa.
After bootup I still get no sounds. XMMS works fine playing the mp3 but no sound comes out until I do the sound card test. As soon as I test the sound card everything starts to work.
I have selected to "enable sound server on startup" but it didn't seem to fix my problem like I thought.
Whats your sound card model?
also, check Kmix, or whatever you use, to make sure that volume is up, and Analog out or other options or on/off depending on your setup
The sound card comes up in the hardware browser as 82801CA/CAM AC`97 Audio Controller manufactured by Intel, Corp. It is the original sound card that came on my Compaq laptop.
No sounds at all work until I do the "soundcard detection". Once I do that I get sound from XMMS and every other program that has sound so I don't think it is related to volume settings. It seems like the sound card isn't getting initialized until I do the sound card detection even though I tell it to load the sound card on bootup.
I'm having similiar problems using a Via Vt8233/A/8235/8237 AC97
controller. on two different Athlon boxes.
I filed a bug report with Fedora , bug #128941
Hi There.
For those who were having some problems with their sound, If You Can See that the file is playing but you can hear nothing try this :
Go to your main menu --->Sound & Video ---> Volume Control
From there a window should open, try manipulating the "Volume" and "PCM".
Hopefully this would help.
Best Regards,
JagaL.
yes!! It sure did thanks very much.
Another adj that made the real difference for me
on my Via VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 sound was the setting in
Kmix was under Output/VIA DXS the setting just after PC Speaker slid bar.
The Pcm made a difference in static correction.
I solve every problems with xmms making this:
1. #rpm -e --nodeps xmms (uninstall xmms that came with FC2,1/rh8,9
2. Download xmms rpm from xmms home page
3. #rpm -ivh xmms(from the home page)
$ no more problems!!!
