screensaver not working at login screen

My screensaver works fine when I'm in the Gnome desktop, but when I log out and go back to the gdm graphical login screen, the screensaver doesn't kick in. After 10 minutes (my normal waiting period) the screen goes black instead of displaying those wonderful whirling patterns of stonersview (no relation. no, really.). It's not a monitor power-saving thing either, because the monitor is staying on and the black screen is an "on" black, not a power off black.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot this? Thanks.

Most likely when you logout, its killing the screensaver process that runs in the background when your in your Desktop environment. I don't know of a way around this unless you have it load the process before you login to your Desktop which then lanches it, etc.
