Red Hat Update Agent freezing, unable to update (FC4)

First - im very new at linux, so the more explicit your requests from me/directions, the better. Have installed Fedora Core 4 (i386) successfully. When I went to update via the red hat network alert notification tool, it froze after building the list of rpms (the up2date dialog box stopped displaying anything). I then had to force-quit the up2date and red hat network alert notification tools. Rebooting and trying again did not work. I am successfully connected to the web, through a hub - could there be blocked ports or something? Thanks much!
