problems enabling id3 support in PHP5.2.1/Apache/2.0.54/Fedora Core 4

I hope this is the the right forum for this question, if not, aplogies.

In short, I have configured, compiled and installed PHP 5.2.1 using:

./configure --prefix=/usr/bin --with-apxs2=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-config-file-path=/usr/bin --with-mysql --enable-id3=shared,/usr/src/php-5.2.1/ext/id3

When attempting to use id3_get_tag() I get the message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function id3_get_tag() in /var/www/html/testid3.php on line 3

The relevant code is:

<?PHP
$tag = id3_get_tag('testy.mp3');
var_dump($tag);
?>

If anyone has an idea I would love to hear it.
