I had problems with the xen kernel as well. My problems were that the xen kernel is an older kernel than the core so the wifi modules wouldn't work. I haven't read this article, so I'm not sure if the author is favoring one or the other, but you can try this:

www.gridvm.org/xen-vs-kvm.html

Thanks all to have helped thus far.

Keep up the good work.

PS. If a distro comes out with a new release and it doesn't work very well, I know some people feel like they've 'betrayed' their favorite distro. Don't at all. Part of the fun in linux is trying different distros. Since F7 didn't work well with me I'm doing pclinuxos atm. Then Debian on my server. So have fun with the different flavors out there. If you want to see how stable one is before you install it, run it in a vm. Altho, that doesn't say if it will detect your hardware or not but it maybe will give you a good idea.

Unhappy Fedora 7

Not just for me, although yes I have my own, but just browsing through the forums out there (which I wish I had done before I installed it) I'm seeing a lot. What have I experienced so far?

1. If you install xen you use the 2.20 kernel I think it is instead of the 2.21. This means if you have an intel 3945abg (and probably others) wireless card it doesn't work because there isn't a module for it. When I installed xen it installed the 'xen' kernel, and the 'core' kernel. To use the wifi you have to reboot into core.

2. The wireless module installs fine. However even though it is loaded, it doesn't see any wireless networks. The one time it did, it kept saying the key was wrong. (it wasn't)

3. If you have an ati card, DO NOT INSTALL F7. At least not yet. The livna drivers do not work. Period. I even tried the drivers from AMD (8.37.3 or something like that) and used a good xorg.conf instead of the default and it wouldn't work either. ATI users must use the radeon driver atm.

These are just the three major issues plaguing me. Please search forums to see what problems people are having. Now I have to decide if I am going to go back to 6 or try another distro (which I love doing) until 7 is fixed and has better support.

I love Fedora and I'm usually the one defending it. However you guys might want to hold off a little bit.

Anyone who is having issues with F7 please list them in this thread so people considering upgrading can see the problems easier.
I have just upgraded from f6 to f7 and am dissapointed that the software add/remove and software update does not work any more!! I get "cannot retrieve software details".

I have LinDVD installed and now refuses to play DVD videos.

I am seriously considering moving to another distro!

There have been issues with the repos altho I don't know if that is the issue you are having. What does yum say? Same thing?

I've corrected the Livna repo link on my AMD64/nVidia F7 page:
http://www.4crito.com/linux/tips/f7tips.html
Just remember to use rpm -Uvh instead of -ivh and that'll fix you right up.
Code:
rpm -Uvh http://livna-dl.reloumirrors.net/fedora/7/x86_64/livna-release-7-2.noarch.rpm

I have a Dell Dual-Core laptop (XPS M1710 gen3) with below specs:
Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor T7600 (2.33GHz, 4M L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB)

I had no issues with F7, bundles kernel, or updated kernel

Are folks having issues with the Intel-Core 2 Duo, Intel-Core Duo, or Intel-Pentium Core Duo processor (I think that is all Dell offers on their laptops at least) -- I am curious if this is really a "pure" CPU issue, or some other hardware cross-interaction type of thing ...
