--I DL'd and installed Fedora about a week ago, I dunno which version it is but it's reasonably current.... I just tried putting in a Linksys LNE100TX NIC card I had lying around and upon forst boot the OS found the card and identified it properly but I didn't understand how to navigate the configuration screen that came up, and ended up entering a few values of something I have no idea, whatever. I hit [escape] or [enter], until the screen asked if I wanted to save the config and I hit "no".
--When I rebooted, the card was not re-discovered the same way again.
--And now, the Linksys card shows up properly in the Hardware Browser window, but does not appear (in KDE) in the list for Network Configuration or Network Device Control. So, , , , I can't select it from the list to configure it, because it isn't there. And every other network-related utility I can find goes back to that same list, that the Linksys card isn't on. I cannot find any way to add it--so how do I re-run that hardware detection utility that correctly identified it on boot?
--------
Bonus question: when something is changed and the computer says some service must be re-started, how can that be done without rebooting the whole PC?
~
Well the easiest way was to shut down a d restart a few times, pulling and then re-inserting the card. Which kudzu detects again, but it won't seem to let me use dynamic addressing-- it still insists on a static IP address, and my connection is dynamic. So what values am I supposed to enter in to those boxes to work?
~
Well the first few times it refused to let me exit unless there was some value in the IP address--?

Is Fedora supposed to mount floppies and CD-drives automatically?
I have to do it manually in the [disk configuration] - [user mount tool] dialog.
This is a pain I can live without.
And I searched here and Google.
I messed with Mandrake 7.2 some time back and don't recall needing to have to do anything special (outside of MS Windows behavior, which is just click on the directory for the CD drive or floppy)....
Yes, sounds like you have a install there. Probably should try re-installing and chhose everything. Let Fedora automatically partition your HD. Install will take some though depending on your system. Also make sure there is a cdrom and floppy directory in your /mnt directory. What kind of system do you have?
