I just installed FC 3 and it can detect my sound card and testing using the soundcard detection passed.When putting music CD i don't hear anything but all other music events are playing well. my english are not good i am from greece
Some manufacturers are cheap enough to ship their computer boxes without that wire. You'll need to get one (not that expensive) to make gnome cd & kscd to work.
Or, you can make the computer read the cd and convert it to .WAV on the fly. This is called Digital Audio Extraction, and doesn't need that wire from the sound card to the CD-ROM.
XMMS has support for this. Just configure the CD audio plugin in XMMS's preferences.
I agree with George, if he can play cds with another distros then he should be able to do the same without any change in his hardware. Surely something is misconfigured or maybe some more packets are needed in their system.
