I want to use mplayer to go out to a website and click on an .asx/windows media file and listen to a radio station online. I have gotten mplayer installed in the past w/ no problems, but what steps must I take to be able to listen to such things as .asx files online. How would I go about installing mplayer to do this. Can anyone using Fedora that has this working give me a rundown of the steps they take to get mplayer and the win32 codec's to work? Is there a certain way I should install mplayer if I intend to use the codec's or can I just go out and do an apt-get install mplayer and then add the codec's/plugin afterward?
I have apt installed, and I have installed mplayer in the past with it. But I guess what I'm confused about is, if I do an apt-install mplayer, will it automatically install the plugins, or is there more I have to do. I'm assuming there's more. Is there a way to use apt to install the plugins after I install mplayer.
unfortunately for some plugins and additional libraries are detected and linked during the compile process. as such you can't add in additional codecs like that.
Why don't you just give it a try? i am not that sure regarding the plugin that you want.
When apt runs, it does install some plugins. Give it a try, if it doesn't then dun give up. there post your problem here. There will be kind people who is willing to help you.
I did infact give it a try and it worked! I did an 'apt-get install mplayer' and it installed mplayer, the gui and it looks like pretty much all the codec's. Wow, that was easy. I just had to go out and get the mplayer plugin for mozilla and install after the mplayer install and I was able to go out to a website and click on a link for an .asx file and it worked fine.
