Since he's on F7, I believe he needs the
newer firmware. IIRC,
bcm43xx on F7 only supports version 5 or later firmware. Since he probably extracted the firmware from his Windows CD I suspect that he'd be better off using
ndiswrapper, although some version 5 firmware can be found on the Web. The problem with using the version 5 firmware is that you have to hack the Windows
inf file to list your hardware as using the microcode in the driver you found, and (of course) it might not do so.
Anyhow, even after I hacked a
inf/sys file I found on the Linksys site, I found that
ndiswrapper worked much better and more reliably on my old laptop. (I have a
BCM4318 chip set.) Bottom line: Use
ndiswrapper for older hardware. And don't forget to add
bcm43xx to
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
