After installing a full line of developing software (anjuta,glade and all dependences). The mouse and keyboard quite working after rebooting the system. They worked fine before rebooting.
O/S is Fedora-18, comp. has 2.4Ghz processor and 2Gb memory.

So what you're saying is, don't fix it, just upgrade. Right. Upgrading will fix everything.
I would like to fix the problem of no mouse and keyboard. I have no problem with anything but these. I need to be able to logon to the system and than maybe upgrade.
Not logging on will cause the loss of a lot of my personal material.

I am not a Fedora person, and obviously I can't ask you the output of lspci (unless you can remote login).

But some helpful info for others would be whether it is laptop or desktop, are mouse and keyboard integrated, separate, USB, PS/2 etc.

Do you recall exactly the packages that you installed.

Can you remote login?

Do they work when you boot to DVD?

I had a problem with mouse recognition on fedora 18. The mouse disappeared on a new boot and wouldn't return on following boots. I updated the kernel and that solved the problem. I had no explanation for the problem, but that's how it was resolved. I could still use the system without a mouse by using the commandline to download the new kernel from a repository. You do have a more serious problem if the keyboard is unavailable for use. Without a keyboard, one alternative is to ssh into your system from another computer if you are networked and have sshd running from boot on the problem computer.

You mentioned that not logging in would cause the loss of data. You can try to save your data by booting up a rescue disk or a live-CD. Such a disk would likely use a different kernel to the one on your system and therefore might, on that account, (or some other unknown reason) initialise your mouse and keyboard so that you could use them and then copy your data off onto a usb or external hard drive or some such. I would be making sure that the mouse and keyboard are fully functional ... if they rely on leads, make sure they are plugged in, and if they rely on batteries, make sure they work. You could even install a new kernel to your system if you had downloaded one and put it on a usb and booted up with a rescue disk or a live-CD, but one needs to know what one is doing of course. In any case, if a live-CD or rescue disk allowed the mouse and keyboard to work, it would suggest a software issue rather than a hardware problem.

I remember a colleague whose mouse and keyboard dropped out and he regained them by updating the evdev input driver by installing the latest xorg-x11-drv-evdev-...rpm. This driver deals with mouse and keyboard events. If you are able to download a later xorg-x11-drv-evdev-...rpm then you could install it if you could get your keyboard going by booting up the fedora installation DVD and choosing the rescue option. Follow the instruction, chroot the /mnt/sysimage and install the xorg-x11-drv-evdev-..rpm from a usb that also needs to be mounted somewhere.

I tried the live-cd trip and the mouse and keyboard worked. I tried the rescue-cd and they worked that way ,too. I couldn't git to any other screen, but the one it booted up to. Never thought about the new kernel install. Will give it a shot and see. Thanx

YAGBTS,(you aint gonna believe this sh*t) I installed FED-18 on another computer with the bare minimum requirements and began following my footstep back to the time I lost the mouse and keyboard. After several reboots, I found that I had removed the Universal Access programs, which included the on-screen keyboard. "YEAH RIGHT", you say,but that's what I found.
So, I reinstalled without formatting the H/D and I was able to recover all that I had installed before I lost the mouse and keyboard. TWYW, but that's what I did.
Again I appreciate your help. I now consider this post as solved. THANX GUYS
