I agree with that sentiment. While taking their feed and re-streaming it ONLY to YOUR OWN Android phone should fall within fair use (at least it better or I don't know the meaning of "fair"), it is a few keystrokes away from things which certainly do not fall within fair use. MLB is not likely to look on such things with any sort of kindness. I would also suggest that you do not publicly post such instructions.
Yeah, I get that. But MLBAM took its ludicrous position against Slingbox because they felt it was costing them MLB.tv subscribers. But as we've seen with the passive assistance (the NexDex JAR), as far as MLBAM is concerned, I think as long as the check clears they're fine with it. If the Android At Bat app ever supports live video, I'll be the first to buy it.
For whatever it's worth, the ffmpeg/VLC video_player line doesn't work with the iPhone (though it probably would if someone took the time to tweak it).
I highly recommend everyone watch the Mets-Red Sox 3/11 game. Not for the game, but around the 5th inning there's a rain delay which SNY fills in with Mets Yearbook 1963. This is so cool and I'm glad MLB.TV didn't block this out with the stupid rain delay splash screen like they will for the regular season. Such a cool retrospective.
And man! Casey Stengel talked like jazz. He caught a riff and there was no telling where he was going with it or when he'll wrap it up.

The code to handle unknown teamcodes (in this case some exhibition game) wasn't quite right. I fixed that code and then added the teamcode from the grid.xml description.
Don't worry. You haven't missed anything yet. All the Grapefruit League games today were canceled (must be raining in FL) and the Cactus league games haven't started yet.
PS. If you were actually trying to get to a previous date, you can always use startdate=mm/dd/yy in the command-line if current day listings are screwed up and I haven't released a patch yet.

e.g. for yesterday's games:
Code:
$ ./mlbviewer.py startdate=03/11/10
good to know that! thanks for updating so quick, u know we're all grateful for all you do!
yeah the game i'm looking forward to is cubs/sox tonight in vegas... hope the cubbies can exact a little revenge for what happened last time we played
Hey, 312. Does that mean today's your birthday? Or maybe it means you were born roughly 1800 years ago? Or am I totally on the wrong track?
ha no, 312 is the area code i live in (Chicago)...
don't worry, as the season drags on it will become apparent i'm a chicago fan, and will inevitably deal with some of my frustrations with my teams poor performance on this board...
that's why i'm into mlbtv, there's never good baseball to watch here in chicago come august/september. usually when the cubs are doing well around that time it's doomed to backfire
I'm new to MLBViewer and am actually looking for a solution to download the streams quickly to watch them from my hard drive. Is that possible with your application? Or is it just saving the stream in normal speed as if you were watching it?
Until last season I used to download the WMV-Streams and was just skipping around the video to see every pitch, but not the stuff in between. So basically I was doing my own condensed game, but with every pitch instead of every at-bat. And of course if the commentators said anything that was interesting I listened to it. I miss that and I was really pissed that they switched to the RTMP streams. I got the rtmp URL but could not authenticate in a way to let me download the stream.
So my dilemma: The condensed games are not enough to get the whole game experience, but watching through 3-4 hours of baseball everyday...I just don't have the time.
Is it possible to download the streams with whatever the connection allows or is it limited to saving the stream in normal watching speed?
I should add that I just tested in Chrome on Linux and the rewind and fast forward features work much better this year. Much as you expect them to rather than in fifteen second intervals like last year. Flash performance on Linux still isn't great. At least not on my 1.4GHz machine. Maybe on a faster box it might be alright.
Hmm...rewind/fast forward seems to work only so-so with mlbviewer's streaming solution. Big jumps are difficult but 10 second jumps aren't too rough on it. Could be an mplayer/ffmpeg issue.
In any case, I encourage you to wait for the 2010 season to start to see if mlbviewer will even work with the new season's offering. Past experience has been that spring training is based off prior season technology and the changes for the new year are rolled out in the last week or so of spring training or the first week of the season.
Just re-built mplayer from svn source and this version seems to be a lot more stable with respect to fast-forwarding. I don't understand how mplayer can fast-forward past what it is getting from flvstreamer/rtmpdump but I do know that flvstreamer/rtmpdump can download archived games faster than real-time.
Again, my advice is to wait until I know what the new season's offering is going to look like but so far, it's encouraging. I love being able to fast forward through commercials.

my mplayer will fast forward a few times than crash. i dunno, may be a function of my internet connection, or the version of mplayer (it was current as of 1 week ago). The new one does it that much better?
again, I'm using a macbook w. snow leopard so I expect a few bugs. I don't watch too many archived games anyway, just thought I'd try it out.
