Minimzed Applications Not Appearing on Taskbar but are accessible via ALT-TAB

Hi there --

We are running Fedora Core 2 with the Gnome desktop on one of our systems. Typically when an application is minimized, it appears on the taskbar. However, for some unknown reason any application now simply 'disappears', and is accessibly exclusively via the ALT-TAB key combination.

What could have caused this, and how can it be corrected? Thanks.

Perhaps the Window List item was removed from the panel?
To add the Window List item to the panel, right-click on the panel, then click on Add to Panel. A window with a list of panel items opens, select the Window List item of the Desktop & Windows section.

If the context menu has no Add to Panel entry when you right-click on the panel, than you've probably clicked on a panel item, not the panel.

it could be many things .
1)
Seeing as there has been NO support or updates for Fedora 2 for about 4 years, the last update was "2004-May-16" . Have you added any security fixes new kernel, updated Gnome, updated glib and so on, by building them from the source code ( this is the ONLY way for a OS way past it's end of life )
2)
seeing as it is so old one of the *.conf files may be corrupt .Try making a new user and see if this happens
3)
install the newer fedora 8 or the new fedora 9
