Java not working. No .java folder in /home/<user>

Running Linux Fedora 10, 2.6.27.29 (updated from 2.6.27.5) kernel

I installed into /usr/local/java as Root after I had upgraded the kernel (the upgrade broke the old install)

In terminal "java -version" returns 1.6.0_15

In terminal "which java" responds with /usr/bin/java

In terminal "rpm-q jre" responds with jre-1.6.0_15.fcs.i586 and does not respond with any other versions

Firefox 3.5.1 shows Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_15-b03 AND java is enabled (shown both in aboutlugins as enabled and also when I use "manage plugins" under Edit>Preferences

OpenOffice 3.1 shows /usr/java/jre1.6.0_15 as installed and selected.

java.com website does not detect java installation. Other websites do not detect java.

I do NOT see a .java folder in my /home directory (I have it set to show hidden folders and files)

How do I correct this?

Please list your browser plugins from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and /home/user/.mozilla/plugins
and ensure that the libjavaplugin_oji.so points to the right location.
