Install Swithchdesk -gui for KDE: Default options only-
Hi:
I installed the switchdesk-gui using yum and used this Fedora WiKi for KDE as a guide. All of the rest of the KDE pkg's and libaries are installed as well. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/KDE
When I run "switchdesk" from cmd-line the Window Manager only gives me the option to set KDE or XFCE as the default.
I thought that after log-in I would have the option to be able to choose between KDE & XFCE but that is not the case.
Is there a way to fix it so that there is the option to choose?
My experience is that you can choose your session KDE, XFCE, or whatever in the display manager, at the time you log in. Are you trying to switch from KDE to XFCE while in a KDE session (or from XFCE to KDE from within an XFCE session)?
Once you log out, if everything is working properly, the XFCE session has ended, and you are back in a display manager session. At this point you should be able to choose either an XFCE or a KDE session, then log in to that session. As you found, switchdesk (with or without the gui) just sets your default DE; it does not replace your running session with a new one. You can change window namagers from within a session, for example from KDE:
Code:
xfwm4 --replace
will replace the KDE window manager (is it still kwin?) with xfwm4, and you can run xfce's panel(s) from a KDE session (and presumably vice-versa). However, going back to the display manager is the easiest and cleanest way to switch from one DE to another.

Based on on what you've said I (think) until I choose a default I'm not going to be able to have the choice of deciding at log in which DE I want.
I'll try again and let you know what happens.
Once you've logged in, you're in the DE. There should be an icon somewhere on the page where you log in (the display manager's page) that allows you to select the session

I am now in the KDE Plasma DE:-
I found the icon at the top of the page on the log in screen.
