IDE Tape drive problems FC2

I 've been having problems installing an Exabyte XVA-1 IDE tape drive on FC2

I found an article that basically said to edit the grub and add hdc=ide-scsi.

I did that and now the device is on ht0, but when I run dmesg, I am getting an "i/o error", "can't get tape parameters" and "drive not ready" errors.

I have changed the tapes and even the ide cables with no luck.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

j
