I've got fc2 with kernel 2.6.5-1.456 (whatever the newest one is)
and a p4 2.6 HT on a Soyo motherboard. So far the only thing i've seen actually launch and use SMP is knoppix (3.3 I think)
I've got the smp kernels installed, but whenever I select in the bootloader, i get this as my last 3 lines:

uncompressing linux...Ok, booting kernel
ACPI- S3 and PAC do not like eachother, for now disabling s3
audit(108763835.243:0): initialized

then the system stops with a blinking inactive cursor at the line below that. hd's don't make any noise, whole system seems halted at that point.

any ideas? (if they involve passing boot parameters could someone make it clear how to do that?)

Your best bet right now is to run the non-SMP version of kernel for now until this is resolved. If you want to play with kernel parameters, are you using Grub or Lilo to boot from?

I used to have this problem when I had RH9 and was just satisfied using a non-SMP kernel. But when I made a fresh install of FC2, booting from an SMP kernel worked like a charm and everything works faster. I really would like to help unfortunately I have no answer for your problem.

Well, as soon as I actually bothered opening my eyes and read the text at the bottom of the grub screen, I saw the "hit a to modify kernel parameters" section and tried that. noticing that one of the parameters was QUIET, I decided to remove that one, and after doing so, saw such a more interesting picture of what was going on when I booted in SMP mode.
Turns out it would actually get to a phrase i've seen before about Bad CRC and some other stuff regarding my hard drives. So I dove into my bios, disabled UDMA, and tried booting again. whaddayaknow, it worked just fine!

In case anyone's wondering, this was the Soyo Dragon P4I865PE plus motherboard, which runs beautifully well in FC2.
