Talking howto change the editor of crontab


hy all,
how can i assing mcedit to the default editor instead of vi when i type "crontab -e" ?

Try setting the editor variable.
EDITOR=mcedit

If that works OK then put the command in /etc/rc.local to make it a permanent change.

Or better yet add the EDITOR environment variable to your users .bash_profile.

it doesnt work. am i missing something?

[mesut@teknik mesut]$ cat .bash_profile
# .bash_profile
# Get the aliases and functions
if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then

fi
# User specific environment and startup programs
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin
EDITOR=/usr/bin/mcedit
export EDITOR
export PATH
unset USERNAME

ok. it is done.

i added the following line into .bash_profile
export EDITOR=/usr/bin/mcedit
