How can I see which version 32 or 64 distro

I know there must be a simple way to detect what version I am running 32 or 64 bit. I loaded Fedora20 and Mint16 from Linux Format Magazine's Mint 16 and Fedora 20 DVD.

The DVD has both distro's on it with both 32 bit and 64 bit versions.

Can somebody tell me which version 32 bit or 64 bit software I have loaded. I ask because I loaded the distro's and was never asked which version I wanted to install.

I presume the 64 bit version must work faster.

Thanks

In Fedora, in a terminal "rpm -q kernel", if the result is "kernel-3.XXXX.fc20.x86_64" you have 64 bit version. Not sure how to check Mint.

Cheers,
Terry

Checking for 32bits (i686) or 64bits (x86_64) :

$ uname -m

Thanks In fedora it says kernel-3.11.10-301.fc20.86_64
Fedora is settled. Anyone know a test in Mint?

Thanks for your help.

I typed uname -m in a terminal under Fedora 20
I get the answer x86_64.

I am not sure if this is the answer as it might
be stating the processor -Quad core AMD - not the software that is running
on that processor.

Thanks for your help

You got your answer in your post that you said "Thanks In fedora it says kernel-3.11.10-301.fc20.86_64" so you have a 64 bit installation.

Same command in any distro - "uname -r". If you see x86_64 in the kernel name you are running 64_bit kernel. See the manpage.
