hello to all,
actually I have some problem with fc5 graphical interface,
actually I upgrade the rh9 to fc5,
at the installation phase there is no problem,
but the problem come when to start the x-server,
the message is like below:
Failed to start the X server(your graphical interface). it seems that the pointer device(your mouse) is not set up correctly. would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem?
when I view the Xserver output,
it state several error like:
(EE) xf860OpenSerial: cannot open device /dev/psaux no such file or directory
(EE)Mouse0: cannot open input device
(EE)preInit failed for input device "Mouse0"
no core pointer
fatal server error:
failed to initialize core devices
What kind of mouse is it, serial, PS2, usb? The mouse configuration file is in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Your connected mouse is apparently not configured correctly in this file. Post what kind of mouse is connected and the instructions for the xorg.conf file can be determined.
I had the same problem as listed above.
I had noticed there is no /dev/psaux file or directory. It was working perfectly in RH9 version. As suggested in some other thread I ran system-config-display -- reconfig. It took to the display config mode in GUI. After that during restart it is working in GUI mode. can some one pl. explain, why it did not work during normal upgrade?
Now I have noticed it mouse is recofigured to /dev/input/mice in /etc/X11/xorg.conf file
Now I have 2 more problem in the installation.
1. When I run Add/Remove software, I get error " Unable to retrive software information" in Package manager window
2. In Network Configuration GUI, I could not activate my modem. I am getting error -8
Can't help with the modem, but that's the cause of your first problem. The add/remove software thingo points at the internet by default in FC5, no internet connection gives your error. If you have the DVD you can configure the yum base repo to point to the DVD, unfortunately I don't have the exact command at hand, but a search of this site should find it.
If you have the 5 CDs it gets harder, yum doesn't know what's on each CD so dependency problems are a nightmare. The recomendation here is to install all the rpms to the same directory in the computer and point yum at that.
Lets hope you get your modem going!!!
