Welcome to LQ!

When you boot your computer, you should see a blue screen with bubbles on it. If you don't press any key, it will automatically boot Fedora after a few seconds. Fedora hides the menu from you - you don't need to see it unless you have a dual boot system.

If not, then I would say that something has gone wrong. Can you post any error messages here, or at least try to describe what you see and then we can try to help. Do you get the GRUB> prompt automatically, or only when you press tab?

PS: In future, can you try better thread titles, and post in a more appropriate forum. For example "Fedora Core 5 Booting problem" may have been better. Also, this post should have been either in the Linux-General or dedicated Fedora forum.

It's likely that your "/boot/grub/grub.conf" have error or missing.

Try typing the following 3 line:
1) kernel /vmlinuz(tab) ro root=/dev/hda1
- This load the kernel. The tab is use to find the complete name of the kernel. It should be something like "vmlinuz-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5". root=/dev/hda1 point to the harddrive that point to the root directory. I'm not sre if it's the same on your harddrive though.
2) initrd /initrd(tab)
- This load initrd. The tab is se to find the complete name of the initrd file. It should be something like "initrd-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5.img"
3) boot
This simply boot the system.

If this dont' work. You need to find the location of your (1)kernel and (2)initrd and (3)root directory.

The kernel and initrd is most likely at (hd0,0). To find your root directory try typing "find /sbin/init"
