Question Fedora Core 3 with BootMagic?

Is it possible to use BootMagic to multiboot Windows 98 and Fedora Core 3? I thought of writing the MBR to the Fedora Core Partition, would that work?

BootMagic 8 works fine with FC3, Win98 and every version of windows and linux that I have ever worked with. Just have Grub write to the “first sector of the boot partition” (e.g., (hd0,1) if FC3 is in hda2) instead of to the MBR (i.e., (hd0)). If you are unfamiliar with how to reconfigure Grub, look in the Grub Manual (http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub.html) under "Installing GRUB natively" and "Installing GRUB using grub-install".

Unless you have some specific need to use BM8, Grub works just as well and costs a lot less. One reason to use BM8 instead of Grub would be to automate the partition hiding that is needed if you want to boot two installations of windows (e.g. Win98 and WinXP), but Grub can do that too, using the hide/unhide commands.

hello
I have a question I have bootmagic installed and in the fedora 4 install I opted not to install a boot loader so normally I didn't install grub.. is it going to work? I thought that if bootmagic was installed and configured I really didn't need another boot manager? can someone light me up on this issue please.. sorry to interfere in your thread I just didn't want to open a new one.
kind regards
MG

Just make sure you install grub to the root of your Fedora Core partition.
Then in BootMagic, just add the Fedora Core partition, and configure it.

sorry to be the 2nd person to hijack your post but i am also having problems with dual booting. when i loaded fedora, grub took over the mbr and i was unable to load win xp. i used a bootmagic rescue disk to load winxp and tried to set up fedora in bootmagic but all i get is a msg saying "preparing your machine to load linux" and the computer lust hangs.
i am at a loss
and again sorry for butting in but i cant work out how to post my own question.

Can you access Fedora Core?

If so, in Fedora Core you should be able to do:
Code:
grub-install /dev/hda
(Where /dev/hda is your MBR/First Hard Disk Drive)

Then open up /boot/grub/menu.lst and add a Windows XP partition to it like this:

Code:
title Windows XP
root (hd0,0)
chainloader +1
Where (hd0,0) is /dev/hda1 - First partition on first Hard Disk Drive.

Hope that helps!
