FC4 - text file collapses??

I am having this weird problem.

I have tried to open some text-files (which don't have any extensions)
with emacs and found out that some files have been garbled and completely
unreadable.
I am able to open these files by KWrite (I'm using KDE)
but it also tells that the files are binary:
The file file:///home/naruto/doc/memo/xmms_mp3
is a binary, saving it will result in a corrupt file.
and it shows many strange characters.

This happened three times before. I open files without any problems,
but one day they get garbled.

Has anyone experienced the same problem? Any help appreciated.

I'm on Fedora Core 4.

It is a really really strange problem
Indeed did you accidentaly overwrite the text file with an other binary file?

Hi TruongAn

>Indeed did you accidentaly overwrite the text file with an other binary file?

I don't think so. I am not talking about only one file, but several files and
it seems unlikely that I overwrite some text files with binary files by mistake.
Besides, text files are put in a separate directory and this directory
doesn't include any binary files.

And maybe I was not clear in the first message, but I can open readable files by KWrite.
But they also includes many strange letters, too, besides the original text.
