FC4 doesn't boot in level 3
Hi,
I'm fairly new to Fedora (Slackware is my favorite distro since a very long time) and I have problem booting in text mode only with FC4.
Whatever I did to change the runlevel (init 3, grub whitout rhgb, inittab with default 3), it simply goes to the login sequence and after I put my login name and password, I press enter and it simply goes again at the begining of the text mode login sequence around and around...I found nothing in /var/log that could help localize the problem.
The box is running usually "fine" in level 5. np. The exact version is Fedora Core 4 x86-64 running on a AMD 4400+ nForce 4 Ultra chipset mobo. I use this box mostly to run a dev Oracle 10g db server, so I don't need GUI after Oracle is installed.
BTW I did a full FC4 install because I didn't want to mess with dependancy.
Big mistake. It is a real pain in the ass to maintain the box after that with too many packages. And I cant uninstall almost nothing neither with yum nor Up2date without having dependancies problem. Really not up to Slackware quality... But on the positive side, SATA and md RAID really works well right out of the installation and of course Oracle installation is really easy since Fedora is like RedHat. It is my first distro in my new machine , it screams it is so fast it is incredible. My oracle instance load in less that 1 sec. faster that the quad Xeon 16 gig RHEL 3 box that I use at work...(oops off topic a little bit)
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks
